He studied at the Canterbury University Ilam School of Fine Arts in Christchurch, where he completed his BFA in 2010. Enberg is considered one of the distinctive voices of his generation, with a practice marked by an idiosyncratic visual language, subtle narrative layers, and a keen sensitivity to art historical, literary, and cultural references.

Over the past years, his work has been presented internationally in numerous solo, two person, and group exhibitions, including in Berlin, London, Basel, Cologne, Auckland, Wellington, Los Angeles, Paris, Hong Kong, Mexico City, and Malmö. He has also participated in major art fairs including Art Basel, Liste Art Fair, Art Cologne, and Material Art Fair.

Enberg has received several notable awards and grants for his artistic practice, including the ars viva Prize for Visual Arts 2017/2018, as well as residencies from Creative New Zealand at Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin and Artspace Sydney. In 2026, he was awarded the Fürstenberg Zeitgenössisch Fellowship.

His works are held in collections including Auckland Art Gallery, the Chartwell Collection, and The Arts House Trust in Auckland. With his distinctive practice, Oscar Enberg has established himself internationally as an artist whose works open up intimate, often enigmatic visual worlds while maintaining a precise formal and conceptual tension.
